Langster: B/B and Cranks?

OK so I've been an' gone and ordered a Langster (well at a ton for frame/forks/h'set who could refuse?).

Got a lot of bits, but not sure about front drive.

Options (least cash outlay first!):
I've got an octalink DA B/B and DA double chainset. The Spesh spec lists a 103 axle - and the DA is I think the same. Running the current 39t would suit my gearing. Any reason why this shouldn't work?
also a 53/39 Camapag Mirage to hand (for square axle)! I assume that this would need a Campag B/B but can't seem to find a Campag at or close to 103? Presumably a different taper from non-Campy axles?

IF I need to buy all new, any suggestions? Don't want to spend more than say a ton.

All advice welcome! Thanks

hmm - can't specifically answer your questions - but i know that if I had just got a £99 langster frame/fork/headset from pearsons - i'd be going crackers in here right now:

the frame is the best thing about the langster (I have an 07 model) - it weighs next to nowt - and is seriously let down by the cheap wheels and other stuff.

buying it as frame only you have an amazing opportunity to put together a pretty sweet fixed.
lets see - nice handbuilt wheels (OP on Phil wood if cash allowed) + light tyres + carbon seatpost + toupe saddle + light stem and carbon aero / bullhorn bars + single front brake caliper (perhaps ultegra grey) = one sweet fixed gear.

The frameset does indeed feel VERY light - especially after my many, many, old steel fixeds.

IF Dura Ace works OK that ain't too heavy! And I have old lightweight single wall alloy rims on very pretty (if not particularly light) LF hubs which spin really well. Need a post and a stem anyway, so splash out there. TWO brakes always! Bars will be old (and again not especially light) shallow drops with long bottoms which I prefer on fixed.

    Shouldn't be TOO shabby!

DJ, here's the 'right' BB if you need an alternative.

    Here's mine!

    fixie.jpg

99 quid langster frame, with lots of bits from the parts bin. I built the wheels myself from CXP33 rims on Goldtech hubs. Michelin Lithion tyres that came with my roadbike. Stronglight track chainset with 46t TA ring, Shimano 115mm square taper BB to get the chainline (just about) right, Goldtech 18t sprocket and Dura Ace lockring. Terry Fly saddle on old ally seatpost, ally riser bars on ITM Millenium 90mm stem for fast handling on the way to the pub. Hideous right brake lever (soon to be replaced with a cool Tektro 2 finger BMX job) pulling an old Shimano 600 short drop caliper.

    This bike is FUN!

Eddy S, thanks for that link - looks just the thing. And they have cranks to suit. Suspect that is where I'll end up!

Quicker off the mark than me, rob b! Looks good. And BIG!

    Campag-taper BB to suit? Here's an Ambrosio one for about 30 quid;

102mm not 103mm, mind; don't know how much this would affect matters.

AND that included forks, h'set and seat post clamp!! Fair deal I reckoned!

Thanks for the Ambrosio link, David.

    Wow!

I've always fancied trying a fixie/single-speed and I'd be fairly familiar with the geometry from my Allez. Not sure I'd get permission for another bike though.

    I play 2nd row...

I was lucky to have a day off today - wheels took 45 mins each, rest of the kit went on in no time.

I am going for for some straight messenger bars and a 2 finger Tektro BMX lever to pimp it up a bit. It passed the 1.5 mile uphill time trial to the pub test with flying colours this afternoon.

How long do they take to deliver? I wouldn't it to arrive until Monday at the earliest.

Was it a courier or the Royal Mail who delivered it?

I need a fixie to add to my collection.
