Tyres?

I'm sure this has been covered but can't find anything that really answers my question.

On my avalanche that was stolen I had some panaracer mach ss tyres, I liked them, good for the commute too and from work, and could cope with a good bit of mud too.

Just wondering what else is out there as they seem to have been discontinued, although i'm sure there may well be old stock somewhere. Looking through evans last night as i'm getting the bike from there, they showed my these continentals, which seemed ok but don't look like they would deal with off road much at all. And they felt really plasticy.

Also saw these specialized Crossroads Armadillo Elite which seemed ok, but very heavy!

basically. HELP!

I will be cycling 3-4 miles too and from work on them everyday on paths and roads, but I don't want to have to change my tyres every weekend before I take it out into the woods.

recommendations please.

any advice is very much appreciated, preferably from evans as it'll be easuier and cheaper (ride2work).

I think the answer to this question would be the Holy Grail of tyres!

Yeh, I understand that I ask a lot from a tyre.

Cheers for the link, I think I got them from merlin last time actually.

As it isn't a particularly long commute I would get some less aggressive knobblies e.g. Schwable Racing Ralph
