Looking at buying Workstand - around £100-£125 mark.

Seen this Tack Spider Professional - http://www.tacx.com/producten.php?fl=true&language=EN&lvlMain=18&lvlSub=64&lvlSubSub=199&ttop=Spider%20Prof

1. Have you got one and is it any good :?:
2. If not, can you recommend another in the same price range :?:

All feedback appreciated.

Thanks.

Get the Spider team instead. I have one and love it. It only takes two ticks to remove the front wheel and the bike is rock solid stable.

Thanks for that, the more I see the reviews of the Spider Team the more I am going to order it tonight. Appreciate your comments.

No worries, you won't regret it. I orginally had a different type of stand and the bike moved all over the place whenever you used any force. You won't have that problem with the spider team plus it folds away into a compact and neat uint.

Hunt around for the best price. I think I used Ribble and paid £80 which was the best I could find.

If you're prepared to spend £125, then bite the bullet and get a Park PCS-4 from Merlin (on Ebay at the moment for about £150 IIRC) Absolutely streets ahead of the Tacx.

I understand Park Tools make excellent stuff but my thoughts have come down to a stand which clamps the front forks and has an area where the bottom bracket sits and one which clamps by the seat post.

I can't see the Tacx being anywhere near as good as one of the Elite models personally, although any stand that lets you hold the bottom bracket area on a carbon frame would get my vote have to say ....

Narrowed it down to the Tacx Spider Team or the Elite Spindoctor - both around the same price...anybody got the Elite Spindoctor - good/bad?

If you just have a carbon fibre bike with a carbon seatpost, a race style stand is fantastic - I have a Park PRS20 since I bought my TCR C2 and I do like it - but it's not as versatile or convenient as a conventional stand. My PCS4 does most of the work here. If your bike has a metal seatpost, you'd be better off with a conventional stand IMHO.

Just to finish this thread off. Thanks to those who responded. I purchased the Tacx Spider Team in the end. Spent Saturday working on my bike, was a real pleasure working on it, this stand is superb and fits exactly my needs.

As an aside, I bought the workstand from a company called Bikegoo, I hadn't heard of them before last week nevermind ordered from them. Only fair to pass on the good and bad of bike shops and have to say this company was excellent, talked things through with me on the phone in an honest way, ordered around 11.00am last Thursday, was here the following day Friday around the same time.

A new company on the list of places to buy bike stuff from.

I also bought some Green Oil which worked superbly on a 50 mile ride yesterday. Much better than the crappy wax stuff...and of course the environmental aspects of this product make it a no-brainer to buy.

    Hope this helps somebody.
