For anyone using an Elite San Remo 80 roof carrier.

The quick release skewer for clamping the forks on my rack, sheared at the cam lever end. It is only 7 months old and has been used a handful of times.

Luckily it happened whilst loading the bike, half an hour later on the motorway and it could have caused a serious accident.

Does anyone know who the importer is as I would like to bring this problem to their attention in case it is not a 1 off.

And for anyone thinking of buying one, think again. Not only has mine failed but the finish is terrible. It has been used maybe 5 to 10 times through one winter, half the paint has flaked off leaving furry aluminium and all the fittings have rusted up. Very poor for the money. In fact I am worried the shop wont believe it is the one they sold me last November!

Has the carrier been left on your car for all this time? - 7 months of our weather will do untold corrosion and particularly to steel and aluminium. My San Remos are still in good nick and nearly 20 years old - I only fit them when needed.
Make mine an Italian, with Campagnolo on the side..

It is only put on the car when needed. They must have made them better 20 years ago. Perhaps they now used water based paint (dissolved by rain) The roof bars to which they are fitted look like new and they have been subjected to exactly the same conditions in the last 7 months as well as an additional 10 years of use!
