Duffield - Something must be done

At least now he's got somebody next to him. When he's alone, torture ensues.

My wife made a very good point during stage 3 yesterday (she will insist on talking when the cycling's on..) Anyhow, she pointed out that although I'd been complaining about the coverage, I could remember most of it. So it had obviously been effective. Fair point. However, I did point out that I couldn't remember anything useful; indeed, it was all to do with sausages, Cote du Rhone and suicide....
I think that Mr Jones is getting a bit fed up with proceedings also - last night Mr Duffield misidentified Efimkin as Cadel Evans and Graham Jones pointed out the fact that it was indeed Efimkin, "The one whose name you can't say"....Head Hands Heart Lungs Legs0 -
Please someone in charge at Eurosport call time on this poor man's confused, muttering, chain-of-conciousness commentary.
I can't begin to describe how annoyed I become at times, at others I just laugh out loud, sometimes embarressed for the senile old fellow.
He makes me misty eyed, thinking of the good old days a few weeks ago listening to Sean Kelly, now that is saying something!
Duffers talks Bo77ocks!0 -
in the Dauphiné Libéré prologe he didn't know who levi was and was stunned when he won not knowing about his time trialing skills,
and if i remember correctly he was commentating when lavi won the time trail in california
silly man!!0 -

All of you people moaning that he's not commentating on what's going on - so what? You can see what's going on, can't you? Telling you what you can see with your own eyes is not adding much to the sum of human experience, is it? Whereas Duffer's esoteric meanderings are an art form._________________________
Well son, you tried your best and you failed. Let that be a lesson. Never try.0 -
lumpy stuff :twisted:0

you have to feel sorry for Graham Jones, he's the one who has to put up with him and correct him when he makes mistakes without making it to obvious he thinks he's a clot.
Duffers is such a nice guy and has done so much over the years but unfortunately he's not at his best any longer.....0 -

pottssteve wrote:Yes, Hincapie attacked. However, it may have coincided with Mr Duffield opening another bottle of wine - I think he told us that he was partial to a drop from the region at least twice yesterday...
Did he take a nice fromage with it?0 -
For some reason "Jimmy The Cuckoo" conjures up in my mind some sort of bizarre mafia character who is so psychotic that no-one dare challenge his comical nickname. I keep waiting to see your contribution to this thread turn to a "send him to swim with the fishes" as a solution to the Duffers Problem...Le Blaireau (1)0

I thought he was okay for yesterday's stage. Hadn't really got a clue which rider was which, but was able to at least try and focus on what was going on.It's a little like wrestling a gorilla. You don't quit when you're tired. You quit when the gorilla is tired.0

I'm also starting to enjoy his commentary.
Maybe it takes 3 or 4 days to settle into Duffieldism and by the end it will all begin to make sense? I'm looking forward to today's stage - it's a bit like sitting and talking with your grandad who you know is going a bit doolally but you don't mind that much. At the end of the day, and if you'll bear with me, it's only a bike race, in English money...Head Hands Heart Lungs Legs0 -

Is that the title of Paul Howard's biography of Henri Pellisier?'This week I 'ave been mostly been climbing like Basso - Shirley Basso.'0 -

Either that, or a set menu best avoided....

At least we shall see how it all shakes out on the lumpy stuff today.
But there still plenty to come.0 -
Never a dull moment when Duffield is commentating, the man is a Legend.
Long may he continue.0 -

Graham's a legend-- Dirk Hofman Motorhomes --0

I think Graham is getting a bit of an easy ride - he doesn't exactly add a lot to the commentary. I'm sure he's knowledgeable but he could sound a little bit more interested. At least Duffers makes an effort.
it's a hard life if you don't weaken.0 -
I disagree with you. Duffers is the commentator, Graham is the pundit. It's the commentator's job to anchor the broadcast and to coax knowledge out of the pundit. It's clear Duffers will just go off on mad tangents and not to do this. GJ and Harmon at Fleche was good teamwork.-- Dirk Hofman Motorhomes --0

"A great day for Rasmussen to win today's stage!"
As David Duffield said, about 3 minutes ago. Senile old fool.0 -
Yes not just once though I thought I had misheard the first time and how many times did he mention Hush vodHow son yee divent need gaan doon the Pit,coz thas plenty coal in the coal hoose0

and I notice from the Rasmussen thread that I wasn't the only one to notice that Duffield seems to think that because he was Danish and can win in the mountains that Sorensen must really be Rasmussen in disguise!0 -

We also had someone called Popamov mentioned several times. It really is time someone gave him a pair of slippers and a packet of Werthers!0 -
Im just pleased we can complain about him,as it shows the dauphine is on t.v. another lumpy bit tomorrow,we shall see dear viewers if hush vod can win the stage or will it be rasmussen0
-
well that numb nut ruined it for me.With his constant repetition of "keep your fingers crossed,we shall see, hush vod" then even saying Le vee was an australian.Time to put him out to grasse (well it is in france)How son yee divent need gaan doon the Pit,coz thas plenty coal in the coal hoose0

you know how you fondly remember the old fella in the pub dribbling and taliking b**locks from his days in the forces and how he always has an empty pint just when you need to get one
Duffs needs his re filling - be kind0 -
I also find he spoils cycling coverage. Saying that Rasmussen won a stage in the Dauphine just takes the biscuit. Then saying Hushvod instead of Hushovd. At least David Harmon eventually corrected himself and said Bosisio instead of Bosioso during the Giro.0
