Cycling down some country lanes last night, got dazzled no end of times by oncoming motorists who can't be @rsed to switch from full beam to dipped, obviously taking the "it's only a bike" attitude. Maybe I should invest in a pen light and have my own back!

Except for that, had a nice ride home!

Same happened to me on Monday night on the way home, couldn't see the road at all and was hoping i didn't end up in the ditch. Good times!
    Many happy trails!

I often sing whilst commuting and cars seem to think I'm telling them to pull out. I now stop when approaching junctions and it has helped I swear.

I have to admit that while cars etc are obviously the most dangerous things on the road, I'm more commonly annoyed by other cyclists riding without common sense (Q-jumping, drafting without me knowing etc)

What is queue jumping on a bike?We don`t have to wait behind anyone.

    +1

What's a polite thing to say when drafting (not that I do of course), maybe the good old Panto line "it's behind you", or The Shining "here's Jonny"?

    Anyone like to add?

For me, swerving over their side of the road with my arms in front of my eyes seems to work.

I'm sure it's been discussed elsewhere but anyway... for example, when a group of riders are sitting at red light and some granny decides to hop on to the pavement, pass the group and plonk herself in front of the group, only to slow everyone else when they try to get away.

I've sat on this for 3 dayts but its still vexing me. Left work on friday, let a girl with a kiddie chair out the cycle lockup first, locked and made my way out of the grounds. Within a minute I've caught up with the girl and she's wobbling all over the private cyclelane in the work grounds.

I couldnt see what she was doing at first but as I pulled out onto the main road behind her I realised she's got her mobile pressed to her ear. Wobbling like crazy she then tries to shift the weight in her rucksack, which is imporperly adjusted it seems.

She rolls out onto the RAB and I think "surely she's not going to use the phone and ride downhill onehanded, its a 35 degree hill!!?" Sure enough she does so I check traffic and nip around her rather than her crashing and taking me out with her.

Back up the hill, waiting at a red in the ASL for about 5 minutes and she comes waddling past me like a penguin with a babyseat, through the red and out into traffic.

I think I audibly said "what are you doing woman!?" Thankfully she appeared to have put the mobile away. If she rides like that with kiddie they'll stand no chance. :(

OK so this was during the day, I had a car coming towards me with his lights on main beam. I was in a position to talk to the driver (because he stopped to let me through) and told him his lights are on mains. He said "yeah - I know", then drove off, with me shouting "but why?" very odd!

RAMBLERS!!!!! I have no problems with you walking the lanes and taking in the countryside but why do you have to walk 7 abreast so that you block the whole road? Not only that but how can you then have the nerve to look put out that you have to move to let a cyclist through?

    Cheer up.
Best thing that happened to me was when Her Indoors took her hook two years ago.
Although I had to console myself by buying two new bikes and new cycling kit.

This is a sobering reminder that this is only one correct answer to the "does my bum look big in this" question.

Levity is a cure-all (except in relation to the "does my bum look big in this" question, obviously).

Cheers for all the messages of support, it means a lot. To be honest it was out of the blue at the time, but in reality it's been long time coming, and it will be foor the best in the long run.

I'll have to get along to the Morpeth for a few jars sometime soon and talk bikes. I'll give you all a shout when I'm headed over

AARGGH - no one to blame but myself!

Why did I go to the gym with my son yesterday and train like I was a 20 year old. My legs are not happy after doing squats and they are now finding it difficult to walk up a flight of stairs.

I'm cycling home in an hour, do I take the easy route home, or do it the hard way?

Well, it wasn't too bad once I got on the bike and made it home (7.8 miles), went the harder way too after being spurred on by "whyamihere". The legs have eased up so I cycled in (9.5 miles) today, would be rude not to  .

Yeah you can warm into a ride, unlike other forms of exercise.

I always find the stretching works wonders if you hold it for about 20-30 seconds, relax and repeat. I used to do ballet and martial arts stretching years back as a kid, though I'd say I was no expert. :)
