Riis Cycling has signed a three-year title sponsorship contract with Saxo Bank to replace its deal with Computer Sciences Corp (CSC), which in March decided to terminate its contract at the end of 2008.
The withdrawal by CSC, the tean's main sponsor for eight years, had left former Tour de France winner Bjarne Riis with just a few months to find new backing.
The team will compete in Tour de France this year as Team CSC/Saxo Bank but will be known as Team Saxo Bank from 2009, Riis Cycling said in a statement on Tuesday.
Saxo Bank, an investment bank specialising in online investments in international markets, did not disclose financial details of the sponsorship.

Oh great, another pro team riding in blue and black for next season then judging by their corporate branding. :( Meanwhile the cycling press has gone back to big book of puns to look under the section devoted to salt-based punnery.

Team Saxo eh? I have visions of spotty youths driving souped-up hatchbacks with bike racks on top. Will the bikes have garish painjobs, side-pipes, stick-on bits of spurious plastic and rows of blue LEDs on the downtube?
Make mine an Italian, with Campagnolo on the side..

I'm wary of teams sponsored by financial insitutions. Remember Liberty Seguros? :P

They can't be a very good bank if they can afford to sponsor a team in the current climate :P

    and Rabobank...

I'm also wary of teams sponsored by mobile phone companies, hearing aid companies, postal services/TV channels/oil rich central Asian states, watchmakers, and now laminate flooring producers

It's worked already, you thought Saxo meant a cheap car made even cheaper by teenager drivers, now you know it's a German bank.

What I'd like to know though is the value of the deal, has Riis got a similar budget?

It's a Danish investment bank..... Surely nothing of the budget of CSC. But Riis says though that they are aiming higher than before, so it can't be any small money we are talking about here...
    Very, very good news!
