Disc Brake Spacers

After a recommondation on the forum I have fitted some Hayes Stroker ryde brakes, which I'm very pleased with. The brakes came with plastic spacers between the brake calipers, which I guess are there to prevent the pads being squeezed out too far when the wheel is removed and there is no disc between them.

Should I keep these spacers and use them when I have removed the wheels for cleaning etc? Or is it not recommended to put anything other than the disc between the brake pads?

Thanks

use them at any time you think you might need them. but keep them clean.
