software to use or route mapping for Garmin 305
Hi all
have had my 305 for about 3 months now, and really loving it, but.................Does anyone know how you can download routes onto a decent programme like mapMyRide from Training Centre? Likewise, has anyone tried uploading rides from MapMyRide onto the garmin as a training aid with the set targets?
Love the thing, but the route map facility on training centre is just crap!

Is that so you can see it on a better map?
If so go download sporttracks, much better than TC

You just import directly from your garmin (presuming you have not cleared it out, otherwise export history from TC and import to ST)
Only thing to watch, is when you first import it, the overlap (i.e. street maps, satelite maps) is set to off by default, so you need to switch it over0 -
mapmyride works ok but is a bit slow.
have got memory map as well which works prerry good. bit more expensive but justified it on getting all the os maps for walkign as well and means can take a laptop on hols and use to create routes when can't get onto t'internet. analysis is not up to much however (even TC is better - and proably fine IMO) but good for route planning,
hope this helps.0 -
You could try http://www.bikeroutetoaster.com/ or http://www.bikely.com/ both allow you to create routes and download them to your Garmin.'Hello to Jason Isaacs'0

At the risk of sounding like a scratched record...
I've used Tracklogs (www.tracklogs.co.uk) for over two years with the Edge 205/305. It works flawlessly. You can plot a route in Tracklogs using proper OS maps and download to the Edge as a course (or route if you really want to). Edit: You can also define the type of ride (road/offroad etc) so that you get a sensible goal time once downloaded to the Edge.
You can also upload routes that you've ridden back to Tracklogs to see where you've been and keep them for later, or tweak them.
Tracklogs can also read and write GPX files as well as it's own format, which is useful.
For keeping track of rides/performance data, I really like Sportstracks (as mentioned in above post). It really is very good.
Hope that helps.0
