Bikes are much faster than i remember...

Just returned to mountain biking after a 10 year absence and stating the obvious, things have moved on quite a bit!

After purchasing a Trek 6300, one thing that I have found is that this bike is much faster going downhill. Maybe my memory is just playing tricks with me but this thing flies compared to my old school Hardrock, especially along forest tracks. Almost gets very scary at times or maybe that just because I am getting old and don't have the same bravado or confidence that I use to have.

Just wanted to get the forum's opinion on this and I am not imaging things...

I've got an old Hardrock (rigid frame) when i got my new bike i instantly noticed that you could hammer down hills & over rough terrain (tree roots etc) much faster because of the cushioning that the fork provides

I noticed that when i came back, lighter frames, lighter components, and much smoother bearings is probably the reason why, bearings must be one of the main reasons as my bike free wheels forever compared to older bikes i've had.
  • Thanks for the replies.
