Normally I'm a great advocate of white parts, this time I'm not too sure, probably a bad sign!!

Valid point about it should be how it rides .
But how it looks is how we are drawn to something . If it looked really pants but worked well i bet people still wouldn't buy it.

looks can be important i guess (in some cases)

i was just trying to defend white forks.

    white forks can look good.

i had grey talas r on my heckler before i got the marzocchis...

like most men i wanted a few more inches  of trvel that is i also wanted lock out and compression adjustabilty as well as travel adjust. i didnt fancy paying silly money for talas rlc so got the 55s for a barging £515.

should look on the american ebay. can get a 32 talas with the 140, 120 and 100mm (i think) and rebound adjustment on the top of right leg for about 300/320 with postage. and just ask them kindly to mark it as a gift so you dont have to pay import tax :) I bought that frame in the pic for 280 with postage from honolulu!

i got the 55s in canada a few weeks ago while over there on holiday.

i had 32s on the heckler from new and wanted to go up to a 36 but they were silly money,. i will defo check out ebay in the future though.

I would wait for next year's Rev - 140mm of travel and 20mm axel. OR.. next Year's 32, it will be stiffer (15mm bolt thru), but can you wait that long? What about Pikes?

at the moment havent got bolt thru front hub so would mean extra cost on top if I got a bolt thru fork, thats why im a bit unsure about buying a bolt thru fork

A Pike is a fair bit cheaper than a Talas 32 though isn't it? I have seen the Fox 32 series citicised before for its lack of stiffness, so i think 20mm would be the way to go.

Oh, and I quite like the white! Perhaps it would look better with 1 or 2 more white accents (pedals, grips etc)

yeah your right about the accents, I got creative the other day and put some white heatshrink over the gear cable outers, and will probably do the brake hoses next time they need a bleed. Im in need of some new pedals aswel, got some cheapo wellgo things at the moment.

Just a question about the pike, am I right in thikning the U-Turn is fully adjustable, or is it steps like the talas?

Nope, it's fully adjustable. The spring rate also changes as you wind, effectively at the lowest travel it is "stiffer" than at max.

Although I don't know if that applies to the air versions of just the coil

hmmm ok then. basically, im lookin at about 85 quid for a pro 2 thru axel front wheel, so i'll wiegh up the different options and see

i to had to get a new wheel knocked up as i was on a standard 9mm axel.

i have to say after riding bth types on the same bike the 20mm through is much better in terms of stiffness you get more control over the frnt end especially on rocky terrain like i was on in whistler,. and i wouldn't of dreamed of taking my heckler into the bike park on 32s..

in whistler i found the 32s were eating through their travel even with a few more psi in them they would still bottom out, especially on some of the harder blue and blk runs i had a scary almost over the bar moment on the slab rock on cut your bars were my talas r bottemed out with a big thud lucky i had my weight far enough back to keep me on the bike..
i also felt the bigger fork slackend the bike out to to me it made it better alot better on the downs but the front does tend to wonder on the ups but with the ata on the 55s i can drop them to 125mm to stop this....

This bike will never be going to whistler, just normal techy UK singletrack, CYB ect. so would I definatly benefit from the 20mm axel
  • delcol
    delcol Posts: 2,848
    possably yes.

the through axel will stiffen up the front end as i said above you will notice this more on rock technical terrain.

i had my qr on my talas come undone on a decent in whistler it was scary lucky the wheel stayed on...

my talas 32 were fine for uk trail riding i never been to cyb yet so cant comment, if you intend to go anywere extreme with super techy terrain then a bolt through will defo be a good investment if you intend on staying in th uk and riding the trail centres then it might be pointless and a waste of money....

Mask 'em up and paint 'em matt black or summat to match rest of bike if it bothers you mate.

Function over form comes first though......

the paint is standard. Its an 06 I think, but I bought it from Honolulu so not too sure if you could get it the UK, but pretty sure you could.

I noticed a hell of a difference going from QR to 20mm in CYB. Coedy's insanely rocky in some places.

Have you considered buying a front hub, and having it built onto your current rim?
Hope ProII front hub = £45 from chainreaction.
Wheel build at your local bike shop, usually around 10 quid or so.
    sorted!
