Campagnolo crank/BB question

I've got a few questions about Campag components:

I've got my eye on a 2006 Chorus triple. Can somebody give em a quick explanation of what BB types I should be looking for? I'm seeing English/BSA/Italian, different spindle lengths (102, 110, 111, 115).

I saw on CRC this quote: "All newer Campy bottom brackets are symmetrical and lack any drive side offset". What year did "newer" start (specifically, is 2006 Chorus "newer")?

    Hey, I think you need a Chorus or Record BB for that. If I remember correctly, Chorus and Record have a different offset to Centaur and down.

    The Italian/British thing relates to the threading of the bottom bracket shell. If you bike has an Italian name, it might by ITA. Otherwise, it is almost certainly BSC.

    The length has to do with length of the spindle. Wider spindles help keep the chainset from fouling the frame, which is sometimes necessary with triples. That said, with Centaur, you can run either a 111mm or 115mm BB with most steel frames.

    I think Bianchi's have British threading.
  • Yes they do.

    Thanks!

    OK, so if we assume British with nothing oversized (I'm in line for a steel frame made in the UK), what BBs would match up with a 2006 Chorus Triple crankset?

    Looks like the 111mm BB is the one; I think the only other length Campag triples of recent years used was 115.5mm, being the asymmetric BB for oversize seat tubes. This might be of help to you;

    P.S. If it helps clear things up further, 102mm spindle = Chorus and Record doubles; 110mm spindle = Centaur double or lower, so you can eliminate these options too.

    Thanks very much for the follow-up: that answers the 110mm versus 111mm question I was about to ask.
