Currently riding a decathlon sport 2 with sora group set which i have upgraded with tiagra chainset and hollowtech BB,as well as some Shimano r500 wheels, not bad for under £300 quid total spend, but frame not stiff enough for me now.
I am therefore wanting a new bike. Budget £600.
I have been looking at the Trek 1.5 and the Giant SCR2.
Athough the trek seems to be of a lower spec than the Giant for a higher price (i can get a giant from a lbs for £465) I am drawn to it because it has the same frame as the 1.7 and 1.9, which suggests it is mainly the frame you are paying for, and that would give me scope to upgrade the other parts over time.

Clearly I will be trying them both out but what I would like to know is the trek worth the extra £100 or so. Is the frame significantlt better than the giant or are they much of a muchness?

The SCR's frame is a good one too, I wouldn't choose solely on that basis.

Pick the one you prefer, which should be easier once you have tried them both. And, if you're still struggling, there's no shame in choosing one because of the colour.

If you go for the Trek try haggling a bit.
Aspire not to have more, but to be more.
