Reba - noise

Couple of weeks ago got some Rebas on my bike and due to an injury have only been able to get out and ride them with any aggression today (other miles on them was road/park riding). All is good over regular stuff, but occasionally (particularly over sudden bumps or roots) there's an odd squelching/squeeking noise from the fork. The ride is fine, they're doing what they should do but just wondering if this noise is normal and if it goes away or is around forever.

Ive got reba sl forks and they make a sort of chuff noise when you compress the forks and release them I have been told that it is the rebound damper doing its job

yup, all of my forks make a similar noise due to the rebound cartridge, you should hear older marzochi models, they squelch ales uber the place

Same here though it is very quiet, with the lockout on i do get some hissing but that is probably the floodgate as the lockout works fine.

Great forks though now i've correctly set them up.
The trouble with having an open mind, of course, is that people will insist on coming along and trying to put things in it.

Squeak maybe a dryish seal. Lube the seal area.

I've looked after them even after the low-impact road rides so will see how they go. Can live with the noise, just useful to know if I have a lemon. Seems not and to be honest, they're great forks and inspire a lot more confidence than the last set, noise or no noise.

I agree the reba is a great fork. Just trying to obtain the guide to adjust the travel from 80mm to 115mm manually. But can find it on the sram site. Is it an easy process?

Its a strip down, but doable at home. Shoukd be a service guide on the site?

Doable eh. Hmmm, nothin a torx wrench, suspension fluid, set of allen keys and a trusty bucket cant handle ha ha!! is it a case of simply removing spacers once inside the fork, putting it together again and simply measuring air pressure in both posative n negative chambers?

Its very doable at home - I changed mine to 100mm and if I can do it then anyone can  You need to follow the relevent sections of thetechnical manual closely. Its literally a case of strip down, remove spacers, replace oil and reassemble. What could be easier? ;)

Was 100mm the limit on your rebas pittpony? some are 100mm and others are 115mm. gonna give it a try tomorow i think.

Where do you measure on the stanchion for the travel distance?

Is it the full length of the stantchion WITHOUT sag?
If it aint broke, dont fix it. Wait, there's 1 exception...unless it can be pimped up in anyway.

yeah thats right, the full amount of visible stanchion when NOT compressed. I wouldnt mind having an indicator like they do with 2 Step function like the totem fork. but i suppose 80mm to 115mm just aint worthy ha ha!!
