I have a 2008 stumpjumper comp full suspention that has developed a creeking sound when pedaling under force, always seems to be in the same area on the pedal rotation and the sound seems to travel through the frame of the bike that may make it sound worse than it actually is, everything seems to be tight and have lubricated all moving parts. Has anyone else had the same problem with the new design stumpjumper and if so have you managed to locate the problem.

Have you tried swapping out the pedals with some spares/a mates?

It's usually the seatpost in the frame or the saddle clamp at top of seatpost and it's at the same point of pedal rotation because that's the point where you load/ unload the saddle as you pedal.

That's what it was on my Stumpy.

    Good hunting.

This is a common problem with Stumpjumpers, the 07 model was the same. It's also worth checking & cleaning all the pivots, especially the main one behine the BB. Mine had seized recently despite reguler cleaning. As the guy in MY LBS pointed out bearings are designed to rotate 360, not just more backwards and forwards by 20 degrees.

Cleanign pivots and servicing the bearings usually alleviates the creaks on my Stumpy.
It's easier to ask for forgiveness than for permission.

    I've bought a new bike....ouch - result
    Can I buy a new bike?...No - no result
  • For me, it was the seatpost saddle clamp also. I thought all manner of terminal things, so rather pleased that it was a simple tightening job (although the bolts do seem to have no end to the tightening...)

hope you can check this and see if it is nothing major.

Found one on mine for anyone searching this, it was the brain hose rubbing on the frame, where it is zip tied on. I took the tie off and put a looser one on. Done!
