80mm to 100mm travel

I have an old 98 Marin Rift Zone that i let someone borrow when we went out the other week. In a rather spectacular crash on it he managed to wreck the front wheel and put a nice hairline crack in the fork!
What i'm wondering is when replacing the fork should I look at putting 100mm of travel on or stick to the 80mm that's on it? I'm looking at the Rockshox Dart 2 on it as i don't really want to plough a lot of money into it as it's only a spare bike.
Thoughts please
