i was on a short tour last week in france, on the sunny western side fortunately. i had a short sleeve cycle shirt and took a patra silk undervest in case it was chilly. i had to wear the silk vest under cycle shirt because i got sunburnt on arms on the first day. i think silk is a great fabric, cool when weather hot and warm if it's chilly and takes a good few days to pong. however i got sunburn on thighs the next day so had to wear my convertible craghopper walking trousers ( my evening and train travelling trousers), which was not particularly nice in the evenings. just made me think that some silk leggings would avoid taking a second pair of trousers. patra do long johns, but not ideal as they'd be under shorts and hence need a daily wash. any ideas about leggings and on the subject does anyone make silk cycling shirts?

Put your bike shorts on then pull the long johns over the top?

Also silk does dry very fast so daily washing is not too much of a problem.

Trouble with silk is it's just not very hard wearing. Merino wool has a lot of the same properties but with better durability.
