Does anyone have any experience of these?

I currently have an on one il pompino that i'm running as a single speed. However I want to convert it to fixed. The bike was built up for me by freewheel in Nottingham and they used a shimano tiagra hub wheelset which was converted to single speed with a DMR conversion kit. I'm still not sure how they managed t convert a 130mm shimano hub to a 135 frame but apparently the fixxer can also do this. Can anyone explain?

For £60 are these converters worth it or should I look at getting a new rear wheel?

May I ask why? I've always wondered why a fixie might be preferable to a single speed.
  • in all fairness you are getting a lot of the benefits of riding fixed by riding single speed. However riding fixed will do one or two things more. Firstly it will smooth your pedal stroke out making your a smoother rider. Also it's an even better work out as obviously your peddling the whole time.

I rather assume that they simply pulled it in by hand! When it's at rest/no wheel what does it ACTUALLY measure?

I've never used one but always thought a handy bit of kit - and I think 60 quid is the cheapest I've ever seen them! IMO choice between a Fixxer and a fixed specific wheel comes down to whether or not you have/are likely to have freehub wheels that you wish to use in this way in the future. Once you have it (assuming it's well made) a bigger choice of wheels!
