HI,

Can anybody tell me if there is a fault with this new Continental GP4000 S tyre I have just fitted.

It has two 'dimples' (small indentations) close together either side of the centre line.

Is this right, or do I need to return the tyre.

Advice would be much appreciated.

Cheers

so I have just read that these are 'tread wear dimples'.

that seems a bit unnecessary, not too keen on that.

Bought this tyre as a replacement for a 3 month old, punctured Michelin Krylion Carbon which had a 3mm cut in it. Hope the Conti lasts longer.

Great tyres. And yes those are wear indicators.

I don't know why they bother putting the wear indicator in tyres. I've always found that I have to replace my tyres way before the wear indicators are worn. Anybody else?

Mine normally look like Zorro has been at them before the tread has worn to a great extent.

I'm really glad you asked that question. I have just changed to those tyres and was mighty perturbed to see the, what looked to me like, two deep holes. Only having seen this thread did I check the rear tyre!
Anyways, I swapped my spech rubaix 23/25 tyres (can't remember what the heck they are called) for the GP's. The only major difference so far was ease of fitment. The spech tyres were easy enough to take off and put back on using just my hand (other than the initial levering of the tyre - on Ultegra rims). The GP's took me ages of sweat and swearing to just get them on! Dread to think what they'll be like to get off.
Is that cos they are folding tyres?

2 minute grovels can sometimes be a lot longer..tho' shorter on a lighter bike :-)

I've found mounting Specialized tyres the easiest of the lot so far. I don't particular like them but the Mondo (60tpi) and Mondo Pros (120tpi) tyres I've had have gone onto a variety of rims with ease.
On the contrary I've found significant differences on tyre+rim conbinations in terms of ease of installation with Continental GP3000, GP4000, GP4000S and Vredestein Fortezza Tricomps.
