New threat to Bristol Greenways

Yet another long established Bristol Greenway is threatened by plans for guided busways. The Malago Greenway runs through south Bristol, along a stream of the same name, providing the only safe and attractive cycle route in south west Bristol. The plan has shocked local cyclists, who are still reeling from the threat to the Bristol & Bath Railway Path in east Bristol which still hangs over them, although progress on that plan has been postponed.

All this while Bristol City Council bid for Cycle Demonstration City status!

  • Update on earlier post. Now the Bristol & Bath Railway Path is threatened with further degradation around Saltford with the proposed extension of the Bitton Railway. It never rains but it pours.

I have no issue with the Saltford expansion. The existing railway is a tourist attraction in a beautiful area. It used to be railway. Sure they will cut into some of the greenway, and reduce a bit of the cycle path. In my opinion, as long as they stop before they get into the wooded area, it's fine.

Regards to the Malago greenway. Lack of imagination.

Let's see the cost benefit analysis of it. So we can promptly rip it to shreds.

Public transport is great. We need more of it. But it needs to be in the right place, for the right cost.

If Bristol is serious about being the a cycling city, they need to quit these stupid bus plans asap.
