I want to buy a roof mounted bike carrier and have been lookin gat the Thule models as they have been recommended by many people on here.

I have a bike with a carbon frame so was going to order the Thule Outride which is the fork mounted model. Having contacted Thule they tell me thi smodel is not suitable for bikes with full carbon forks. So my question is what do people that have carbon bikes do ?

I've read the fork mounted models are best because there is no clamp on the frame thus stressing the frame in a place it's not designed to be stressed in.

  • I have one that clamps on the frame. I just don't overtighten the clamp. The bike is held securely by straps around each wheel. The frame clamp stops it moving around too much but doesn't need to be tightened to the max. Besides - frames are tubes for a good reason!

    Beardy,

I had the frame clamp thule model and my Cervelo R3 would not fit so I opted for the outride which is perfect and there is no problem with the carbon fork mount at all.

My rack has arrived so I'm hoping it fits. ISn't time to send it back if there's a problem...off to Cornwall on Saturday morning.
