Inner Tube sizes

For me, the size of my inner tubes have never been an issue before. "Yeah, I'll take a couple of those Schrader tubes for big noobly tyres please...". :D But I now want a set of road wheels, and the set I bought (Shimano WH-M505) are so narrow, they must have a Presta valve inner tube.

So... I got myself some 26" Schwalbe Presta tubes (SV12), and on first inspection, their diameter is a lot larger than the diameter of my wheels! So after going through a mild panic that I bought a set of 24" wheels (I didn't), I am still left with the problem that the tubes, after even only a slight inflation, seem much bigger than the wheels. :?

I tried fitting a set of 1.3" slicks, and because of the extra slack, the inner tube has a Z shaped kink in it, at this point I decided to post this, as the picture just doesn't look right.

Now I know that Shimano recommend that the minimum tyre size for these wheels is 1.5", so is this the problem?

Does anybody have any thoughts. Should I just pump these babies up? Or invest in some larger slicks? :?:

Thanks,
Stephen (who has used slicks before, but never had all this hassle)

so what is the size on the tube? (not the box).

  • The only thing on the tube itself is what my be a lot/serial number - 2710724 and the following: (No.12), which corresponds to the number on the box. :?
