Clipless Commuter Shoes?

Well I think I'm finally ready to give clipless pedals a go, going for the Shimano M520s as they are dual sided and cheap so I've not lost out too much if I don't take to it. Only trouble is I'm not to sure what shoes to get?

Don't really want to spend a fortune, any ideas?

Any standard MTB or else a "leisure" or "touring" show will do. Persoanlly I've always found the Specilized BG shoes to be very comfortabel and fairly good value for money. Other options are the DHB shoes which are very cheap and seem to be great for what you pay for them.

Yep, the DHB ones would be good for testing the water, they're only available at http://www.wiggle.co.uk though.

Try Shimano MP66 for the trainer look - easy to walk in with a stiff enough sole to get the benefit from your pedals and pretty much weatherproof.

For more serious riding I agree with Clanton - you can't go wrong with Specialized BG Comps or similar.

I use Shiman MT40's as my commuting shoe. Comfortable, reasonably weather proof and look like a "normal" casual shoe. Have laces, and a velcro strap to keep the laces off the bike, and a grey suede appearance that goes well with my casual 3/4 baggies.

They have some flex and are reasonable to walk in (but no normal shoe), make a nice "crunching" sound which scares people when walking behind them. Walking on the balls of your feet on stairs can be a little hairy (particularly metal on metal).

Cycling the cleats are nicely adjustable, but I find it difficult to get that foot locked in to shoe feel to get the most from my cycling. But as I need something I can walk in this is a satisfactory comprimise.

Only downside for me is that after 12 months the lining is starting to break up which isn't great (but they were cheap), though if I got 12 months out of sports trainers I'd feel lucky!
