Dawes Super Galaxy question as to age?

Hi,

I've just bought a Dawes Super Galaxy off Ebay and have no idea of its age. It is green and has a mix of Shimano Deore & LX with Mavic Rims. I thought that they came with more high end components and it looks like its had bits added along the way.

If anyone can help me put a date on the machine and whether its worth what I paid I'd be very grateful. It is a really smooth and fast ride.

    My '97 Galaxy came with Deore and STX and this looks about the same vintage and reasonably original.

    I'd say in that condition (and something has happened to it for the paint to be damaged, Dawes 'hard as nails' finishes are legendary) a reasonable price would be nearer the £200 mark. But then that's ebay for you.

    Oh dear. I ended up spending quite a bit on it as I took a train from Manchester to Bath to pick it up as well so it came to £350 in total. When I got back home, I took it to my local dealer & they put a new chain & block as there was slack in the chain & they did some other maintenance & said it was in good nick except for the aesthetics of the paint missing on the top tube. this cost me £48 so I've spent about £400 on it now.

    Der Ver Cycles reckon I need to check for corrosion inside the frame as - if it were untreated condensation could have caused problems particularly in the seat tube and bottom bracket area.

    The good thing is that iIt is a fantastic ride, but then I am comparing it to my heavy Giant Expression hybrid. The fact that the it isn't sparkling new also acts as a thief deterrent, so all in all, there's a silver lining to every cloud.
