Okay, so she`s the most successful uk female cyclist at the moment, has about a dozen massive awards to her name, but nobody seems to mention her on this forum. Well, I met her today, outside Bikehut at St.Pauls in London, and what a truely nice person she is ! Go Nicole, Go !
And on the 7th day...............

In the public perception, I don't suppose she is the most successful female cyclist - Vicky Pendleton is, and in a couple of months time, Rebecca Romero may be or even Shanaze Reade.
The biggest feasible target for any of the current UK riders is an Olympic gold, and although Nicole Cooke may arguably be our most successful road cyclist in the last 20 years, she's well to the back of our crowd of Olympic hopefuls.0 -
She's not great PR-wise is she. Great cyclist yes, but she doesn't come across well, not sure why. A bit dour, maybe.0

Personally, I would put success on the road far ahead of that on the track. In the great scheme of things, track racing is very second division.0 -
But track racing is easy to watch though isn't it. Little chunks of pretty hardcore racing lasting a couple of minutes at a time instead of hours and hours of mostly dull riding with the odd breakaway or finish line sprint. It's easy to see why the non-cycling public find track racing (and therefore track riders) more popular.0

Absolutely - in the '50s, Harris was a household name in sport as much as the likes of, to pick two random examples, Roger Bannister or Billy Wright.
