The shim in my seat tube has become stuck in a position raised above the seat tube when I adjusted my seat height last night. I think I may not have greased my seat post sufficiently when I installed it. Am I ok to give the shim a tap with a hammer over a protecting block of wood to get it back into position? Then if I grease the seat post sufficiently should it stay in position whilst I reinstall the seat post and adjust to the correct height ?

can you not just remove the seatpost, then remove the shim from the frame, for a good clean?

Is this a USE type shim?

Yes I will try that. Could be dirt that is stopping it sliding into postion you mean.

metal things tend to stick together after a while - corrosion, metallurgic reactions, etc.

always good to strip things down periodically and clean them.
