Old Peugeot Course racer and Campagnolo Vento ?
Hello,
I have an old (1980's) Peugeot Course racing (road) bike, very similar to the one on the following picture.
I need to replace the wheels and would like to replace them with Campagnolo Ventos, with a view to transferring them to a new frame when funds will allow.
Could anyone please tell me if these wheels are likely to be compatible with that frame, and if not, possibly suggest an alternative ?
I'm also wondering about the possibility of installing Campag Veloce gears, again with a view to transferring them to a new frame later on.
I would be most grateful for any help that anyone can offer.
Many thanks in advance

They will work, but the frame is likely to be 126mm betwen the dropouts, whereas the wheels will be 130mm. Doesn't sound a lot, and you could get away with sprining the frame apart, but it's best to get the frame "cold set", which means bent in a controlled sort of way. Good LBS or framebuilder is the best option but you can DIY - have a look at Shedlonbrown.com.
Thje other thing to be wary of is chain/cassette clearance against the stays but this is usually OK.
Probably more fun to run it as a fixie and get a new bike on cyclescheme or Evans (etc) credit.0 -
Hi Rob,
Thank you for such an informed reply and I will certainly check that measurement.
Thanks again0
