Anybody doing the ride this weekend? I am entered in the 50 as I feel more confident at this distance for my first serious group riding experience. Hoping to complete in under 3 hours. Would appreciate any hellos and encouragement en-route. Will be riding a black Orbea Onix and wearing an orange jersey. Most of all want to have some fun. Best of luck to all going.

I'm doing the 100, but if I see ya I'll wave!

I could really do with a lift though as its too early a start for public transport

Is there anyone doing this ride can give me a lift from Diss direction? I'll pay cash!

Well what a mornings ride! Had a great time and achieved my goal of a sub3 hour ride(2hrs50mins) Was very impressed in general with the organisation but the lack of signage at Buxton was a bit of a worry. Most riders seemed very competant and rode well so thumbs up there. How did you all do? Well done to those who rode.

I did the 50. It was my first event of this type using my Specialized Mountain bike. I managed the ride in 3 hours 12 mins, averaging 15mph.

I thought I had taken a wrong turn at one point as there were no signs for miles and no other riders in sight.

Anyway had a great time and will do another similar ride in the future. Better think about a road bike now!

Well done Markos thats a good time. I did the 100 and loved it, more so because I only started riding in Jan/feb after needing the BHF services at the end of 07.

After seeing your signature, I'd say all the hills were moved to the 100 mile route, a few kicks in the teeth including 2kms of between 10-15% gradient just before the half way point.

I know the hills on the 100 route well as I train over them  Probably why i decided to start off with the 50 first. Now have the taste for it so going to enter some more for the summer and work up to a hundred.

I completed the 100 and I was very glad as we had a tail wind going down the coast. I enjoyed the ride but I was disappointed with the medal, I hoped the medal would say what it was for and the year.
I don't think I'll do it again but I'll look for another in a different part of the country.

NeilC, I hate to tell you but I'd guess the medal will be the same all over the UK if its the BHF ride, its the same company that organises them, why not put a sticker on the back to say year and time, or spend £3.50 and get it engraved yourself.

Personally I did the ride for the fun of it and to raise money for a charity that has helped me in the last 12 months, I couldn't care less about a bit of tin, I have 1000's of those already

shooter560, I'm glad the BHF was there for you, having supported them for over 30 years in various ways (fun runs, marathons, regular donations) it's always nice to hear of someone who has received their help :) . I'm also pleased that you couldn't care less about a bit of tin, but for me and my memory I need help remembering what I got the bit of tin for. As I said in my reply I don't think I'll do it again as I will be looking to do another 100+ mile ride in another part of the country to help keep it interesting, not for a bit of tin.

Sorry to be so late, but 'Thanks a lot'.

Would you or anyone else like to comment on the amount of traffic you experienced during the ride, specifically the good or bad stretches?

Well I think I meant cars, since most of the 250,000 oad accidents a year in the UK involve them.

But if you have figures about how many close personal relationships develop between cyclists due to cycling traffic density along this particular route, I’d be glad to hear that too.

I set off at 8 am on the 50mile route. There was some traffic on the Reepham Road that tended to behave itself, but then again the cars were outnumbered. I had one tosser who overtook me then braked sharpely in front of me because of some slow MTB'ers. I overtook him which upset him alot, causing him to wind down his window and shout at me 'what the hell are you doing?'. I just ignored him and carried on, he must have been held up a while as I never saw him again.
After the 50-100 split I saw virtually no traffic at all until the Coltishall-Norwich run in.
