Hey

I was looking for some advice on the Kona Stinky. I have decided I want a Freeride/ Downhill bike and the Kona Stinky has caught my eye numerous times.

I was wondering if anyone has tried the Kona Stinky 2008 and how would you rate it? Does anyone know if it's much better than the Kona Stinky 2007 as you can still get them online and they're almost £400 cheaper.

If you don't rate the Kona Stinky what bike would you recommend for Freeride/ downhill riding in the same price range.

Any advice would be great.

Thanks

Mogli

apart fromthe usual kona weight and spec vs pricepoint issues...no idea..do like the look of them.

whats you max budget? this might help people suggest alternatives..and is it for FR or DH as its more a FR bike

    Max would be £1,500.

It would be more for freeriding.

Would a Marin Rock Springs be burly enough for your needs do you think?

It's not a freeride bike per-say but it is very capable and I'm willing to bet it's vastly lighter!

Just throwing up an outside choice...

iv got an 06 stinky... i love it..

iv given it some real sh1t over the past 18 months or so and have to say that its done well... nothing has gone wrong yet (touch wood).. ok i have spent some cash on it since iv had it but i think you have to if you get an 06 coz the spec they come with is pants...

my mate also has on 06 and his is all cool as well...

as far as the 07 goes they were a little better... the rockers wernt made of cheese which was a good start but again the spec wasnt great...

as for the 08... great bike mate..... my mates bro who had an 02 and an 05 has now just got his hands on one.... and i have to say its a great bike.. rear rockers look a lot better that the last 2 years... and they have put some nice forks up front for a change....

i would say go for it mate.. im sure you will love it!!!!

i will say this tho, make sure you go and put your bum on the bike before you part with your cash.... you may find that the bike is not the right one for you,,,, and the last thing you want to do is find that out after you have spent out!!!!!!

Thanks for all the help and advice dude. Much appreciated.

Big help to know that the 2008 is a better bike all round. Makes it worth spending the extra money than getting the reduced 2007 model. Don't want to have to upgrade as soon as I get the bike.

Yeah I will definatly have to try the bike out as I am tall and always struggle to find things that fit me right.

Cheers again for the advice and enjoy your Stinky dude!! :D

or a 2007 or 2006 Marin Quake can be found for about £1500 if you look hard enough. 7" travel beast, that can actually be used for XC as well!

I agree with yeehaamcgee I just got a quake 7.1 for £1,100 and love it.If you've got £1,500, for £1,300 you could get the 7.2 which has Marzocchi 66 forks rather than AM4s and has an air shock raher than the roco.
but the 7.1 is still amazing and such a steal at £1100 just make sure you get different pedals because th ones that come with it are shocking and caused me to crash!
    Hope this helps

Also freeborn have some good deals on Devinci bikes at the moment that you might want to have a look at(http://www.freeborn.co.uk/shop/bikes/). I've just checked and the place (rutland cycling) with the quake 7.2 only has it in small but they still have all three sizes of the 7.1
But i can't recomend the quake highly enough can't wait to get mine out to the alps this summer :D:D:D
