disc to track hub conversion

Hi Guys
I'm looking at buying a bolt on rear cog (Tomicog) and converting an old MTB disc hub to fixed. I'm not too keen on the idea of simply using the existing rear hub (although it will be easy to do). I thought I could buy a new axle and re-space the front hub for service as a rear hub. The simplest solution would be a 9mm diameter track axle - does anybody know whether such a thing exists and where I might get hold of one?
Alternatively, is running a 10mm rear axle on a front hub (originally with a 9mm axle) a complete no no? I think it probably is but if anybody has any experience or other ideas on how to put such a thing together, it would be much appreciated.
Many thanks
Simon

I've used a Shimano xt front hub it had a 10mm axle with the ends machined to 9mm to fit the dropouts.
So I just used a rear axle and some spacers easy!

Hi Del
I don't think I explained too well. The hub (not even sure of the make) has a 9mm axle and I don't think I can use a 10mm axle with it .
I think a Shimano hub may be the way to go but woud like to avoid spending too many $'s if I can.
Cheers

Sorry simon I didn't read it properly.
I'm all for reuseing old bits. but you'll have a hard time finding a long enough axle to fit.
I'd just get a cheep shimano hub and save the other one for a cheep pub bike.
I know thats not helping.
