Have done the red route a couple of times now.
First time I managed it in 2hrs 23mins.
Today I managed it in 2hrs 16mins.

Bearing in mind I'm still not that fit and I have to stop because my back starts hurting, is this a good time?

What time have other people managed to do it in?

It is a rough road that leads to the heights of greatness

In my opinion its not the time you get mountain biking done in, it's the ammount of pleasure you get from doing it.
Last week (Wed) I did a ride by myself, so I wasn't racing to keep up with the guys in front and not waiting for anyone behind me and that ride last wednesday was perfect!
Just me by my self, working at my own pace, stopping evey now and then to take in all the beautiful land scapes and sceanery, glourious wether.
That ride was soo good it will stay with me for ages!
Isn't that what mountain biking about?

It sure is, and I do make a few stops (usually because of my back more than anything). I was just curious to know if I'm completely useless or not.

Thinking of going for a weekend to Dalby, is the campsite ok? Good facilities?

Going to take the wife and dog on some of the blue and greens and then get a few hours in on the Red.
  • what kinda bike you do your fastest times on? ht or full suss? i can scrape 2:14:00 on a ht, reckon as times go on it will peak about the 2 hour cos the state of it is terrible. would be best of doin it on a down hill bike.

My bike is a full suss. I think with a bit of practice I too could get to the 2 hour mark but I need to improve my fitness.

  • gbr, what camp site you stayin at? dog will be suited to green and blue routes, when you do red, try some of the black to, which, in my eyes is better (although loads shorter) than red.

Thinking of staying at the forest holidays site - Spiers House. Might make a small holiday out of it - few days biking and some sightseeing inc whitby, scarborough, Harrogate, York.

Does anyone know of any other good camping sites?
