"I´d like to thank my team for their help throughout the Giro, all the assistants, all the riders and, above all, my coach, Pietro Algeri. He´s an experienced man and he can always stay cool. Me, with my winner attitude, I can sometimes be quite problematic. This is who I am, I hope I can get tempered with time. Luck didn´t help me much in this edition of the Giro, but I know next year, with one more season upon my shoulders, I´ll be close to unbeatable. I´m exhausted right now, both physically and emotionally. I´m going to Sardinia for a two-week holiday, and then I´ll start thinking of my goals for the second part of this season: the World Championships and the Giro di Lombardia."

Yes, another year of preparation.Dan0

He certainly has some talent and could have gone closer if Piepoli hadn't crashed out,but he needs to learn to breathe through his mouth more so he cant spout off0

For all his talk he never really attacked on the Gavia-Mortirolo stage when he had the chance - didn't seem willing to risk losing the race to try and win it. Instead he covered all the attacks from people like Simoni and Sella on the Mortirolo and then had a few short digs which he abandoned when he didn't get an immediate gap on Contador. Now I'm not saying he had the legs to get away but why not let a few people get up the road - or at least let Contador try and cover them - and then give it everything for a period of minutes and see if you can get across to them and crack Contador - it's not as if Contador has looked unbeatable in the mountains. I'm sure all this has been said on another thread but I've been away camping for a couple of days.

"I´d like to thank my team"
erm... what team? Aside from Piepoli, I didn't see a yellow jersey in the front group that wasn't a Tinkoff past the second week.
To be fair, Ricco rode a very good race, but he could've won it on several occasions. Or he at least could've made a dash for pink and force Contador on the offensive, a position he was clearly not in form to be in. It's not more physical preparation he needs, it's psychology and tactics lessons. As Virenque said in the French ES commentary, he clearly could've won "à la pédale" but threw it away in his head.
Maybe next year...0
