odd mileage polar readings

I have a 725i polar unit and use it on two different bikes - both road, both same size tyres and wheels - but on one bike it works perfectly and on the other the readings for the mileage and speed either don't happen at all or are wildly out (today it said I'd done 145 miles over a route that I KNOW is 75)

Anyone shed any light on this?

    What software do you use?

I have had weird results in 'Polar precision performance' when I download data, eg showing the speed on the chart in mph, even though the axis shows kph and the average line shows kph and all other exercises are fine in the same view! I think this was caused by having the wrist unit set to mph and the software set to kph.

Does your problem happen with the wrist unit (eg it doesn;t show speed when you are riding) or just when you download to your PC?
  • Try changing the battery in the speed sensor.

My symptoms were that it occasionally skipped parts of my route and it would be a couple ok miles short. The led lit ok and the magnet was correctly aligned.

The battery is a standard one readily available.
Take the speed sensor off cutting the tie-wraps.
Undo 2 No screws these are at the bottom of a hole.
Take care that you don’t drop the gasket and remove the cover.
Slide out the circuit board the battery is under a pressed clip.
When reassembling make sure that the gasket is in its set.
Racing is rubbish you can\'t relax and enjoy it- because some bugger is always trying to get past.
