Hi,

Looking for some new tyres at the moment I have some Michelin Speedium 700x25mm which came on the bike but I would like some 23's but not sure what to get :? I've looked at the Michelin's and Continental's but there is loads to choose from. I don't race, just a weekend/evening rider. The only style of tyres I don't like are the coloured type with the red or blue type of rubber splashed all over them :| so they need to be all black or black and dark grey. Any suggestions ?

Simon.

IMHO, the best tyres you can get are Continental GP4000S note that these are different from GP4000 with the 'S'. They're quite pricey though. Other people will probably recommend Michelin Pro Race 3. They seem to be the two big guns in the tyre world right now. There are lots of others aimed at puncture protection or rain or such, but those two are regarded as being good all rounders.

Why are so desperate to ditch 25mms? They are not noticeably slower (probably faster in a lot of cases), and they are far more comfortable, better grip, better wet handling (compared to the same model in 23mm)

I'm definatley after all rounders. Don't want to be buying tyres for different weather/seasons :D

No that desperate to change to 23's, just rode the gf's bike which has 23's and it felt alot faster :?

    Could I get some better 25's ?

I have the Continental GP4000S because they came top in a magazine test; can't find the link now :(

Seem fine to me but I probably couldn't tell them apart from any other tyre; do feel grippy though ...

I've assuming you can get GP4000S in 25mm (I have the old GP4000 in 25mm), and you will be able to get the PR3s in 25mm (eventually).

Then there's always the Vittoria Rubinos in 25mm,

Considering a pair of Rubino Pro II myself - cheap compared to the top Conti/Mich tyres above, not much more expensive than the (dirt cheap) basic Rubino, but quite a bit lighter.

Have read good things about Specialized All Condition Pro and Bontrager Race Lite Hard Case here too.
Aspire not to have more, but to be more.

I changed recently from Specialised Roubaix Pro tyres which are 25's to Michelin Krylion and so far have been impressed by them. I looked at the Pro Race 3's (which incidentally are black and grey so may suit you!) but having discussed it with the guys at Condor, the Krylions are a better all round tyre for folks like me who won't be setting new records any time soon as they are considerably more robust. Still considerably more lively than the Roubaix which in fairness were a more comfortable tyre.

I really like my 23mm Vredstein fortezza tricomps. Fast, and so far they have inspired complete confidence in terms of grip. I was really surprised to see that they didn't come out so well in "that" magazine test (Tour) and that grip was mentioned as a weaker point. This seems to go completely against my experience and that of a lot of other people. I know that there are different versions of this tyre with confusingly similar names and that weight (and so presumably other factors) have changed from year to year, so I wonder if the tyres they tested were the same as mine.

I've got them, you can get them in all black.

    I like them,

Rubino Pro's - adequate/good puncture resistance, good grip, good price.

Im also a fan of the fortezza tricomp Ive descended at nearly 60 mph in damp conditions with every confidence in them.I have had Rubinho pro's and they were sliding in very slightly damp conditions so gave them away, they also slid on a steep climb under the same conditions. However its all about what your comfortable with and more importantly what gives you confidence. The tricomps can have up to 175psi in them although I run mine @140 psi as its as high as my track pump seems to go.

campagchris - Why do you need to run them so high at 140psi?

I like the grip of Fortezza Tricomps. Not so impressed with their longevity.

New bike is coming with a set of Rubinos on it so I'll give them a bash before deciding if they're keeprs or not.

I recently changed from conti ultra gator 23mm to roubaix 23\25mm tyre, cant say I noticed any loss of speed, far more comfortable though.

My current set up is Michelin Dynamic 700x23 front and rear inflated to 80psi.
£6 each from LBS.So far they've done 2000 miles without any problems.
