I've moving from road to mtb as my back can't handle the stretched position on my road bike anymore.
Sat on a few mtb's and the more upright position is just what I need. I plan to do general trail riding, visits to some of the man made centres etc, but would also like to do the odd race / sportive event
I've been looking at the Trek Fuel EX8 which seems to fit the bill. Haven't been able to look at the top fuel, am I right in thinking that that has a more racey geometry ? I don't want to be too streteched out again.
Any other recommendation appreciated, must been FS, won't be doing anything wild so don't need masses of travel,.

Cannondale Prophet's can be picked up at decent prices these days with the introduction of the Cannondale Rize and Moto.
I think What MTB (or one of the other mainstream mags) gave them 10/10 in a recent test.
Maybe worth checking out as they are pretty much a "do it all" bike capable of riding most terrain, whether it be xc or freeride (if you feel that way inclined at some point).0
