New Specialized MTB query

My little brother (Micky G :lol: ) has just purchased a new Specialized mountain bike (sorry dont know model) which he's extremely happy with. When he came round to show me i noticed that the two gear shift cable that run on the underside of the down tube crossed over half way down :?: is this correct?

    yes it is normal.

    Or it does not matter and is often done to give better routing to the outers.

    I spotted this on my rockhopper and was wondering if it would be wise to put a little bit of silcon sleeve on the cables where they cross?
