Saumur is a lovely town on the Loire, home of famous horse training school (that famous i can remember) also just a little further down stream is Angers, hoem of Cointreau. My favorite tipple.
It also has a lovely chateau with an ancient tapestry for a little history.

Visit some of the beautiful and varied chateaux close to Tours, some with excellent gardens to admire. Many appear to have interpretation centres aimed at children:

A few years since been along the Loire, but, yes, "Saumur is a lovely town".
And Amboise - there is (or was!) a camp site on an island with lovely views of the Chateau.
Have a good time.d.j.
