Cheap wheels

I need to get a new front wheel for my wife's bike. The extent of her cycling is to tootle to the tennis club and back but I broke her wheel (long story, it involves CentreP parcs and trying to ride a hire bike and push hers at the same time).

But...all the wheels I see on the tinterweb are at least £50.00. I'm after bog standard 26" inch wheels that can be as heavy as they wish. She ain't getting quality! I'm such a romantic.

Any recommendations? I may just bob to Halfords and see what they have.

Have a look at the Merlin Cycles website. They build cheap, but very good, 26" wheels.

Try Edinburgh Bicycle Co-Op just google them for the web address - free delivery on order over £20 and a selection of good wheels for under £50.

Is there a bike stall at your local market ?
There's one at ours, sells cheap-n-cheerful nuts-not-QR wheels pretty cheaply.

If there's any possibility that she might ride in the wet, at least pay for alloy rims. Steels lose all grip for the pads in the wet.
