Oiling chain - how often?

I'm going off to France for a 12 day tour of Brittany - do I need to oil my chain while I'm away?
When I'm at home I tend to wash my bikes more often than every 12 rides, so they get lubed following that. I'm not going to wash the bike while I'm away, so I'm thinking I won't need to lube the chain during that time, so I won't need to take the lube with me. Is this reasonable?

  • definatley lube it after you've ridden in any rain - that'll dry it right out other than that you'll be ok for that length of time - just keep an eye on it

Bring it with you, it's not exactly heavy stuff. If it is dry and you aren't riding in dusty conditions you may not need to use it.

    Hi there.

Brittany isn't the south of france... if I remember my childhood holidays they get a fair amount of rain coming in off the sea... You'll need to re-lube after any heavy rain.

It depends on the type of lube you use. Finish Line's wet cross country lube last a long time in all conditions but it's a bit messy.
    It's all good.

I find that once in a blue moon is usually enough.
