Evening all - I hope someone can assist.. just getting my first grown up road bike having made do with with an 'old clunker' for many a year. However I cant get any road shoes that will fit. :(

Can anyone suggest a brand that does wide fitting shoes and a store in the south that may stock them.. ps anything at Evans (Gatwick) specialised, shimino & Northwave didnt fit !

Many thanks

Richard

Some of the high-end Shimano models come in a wide fitting - I wouldn't expect any of those shops to stock them though. Chain Reaction has some IIRC, otherwise just check the shimano site and google the model no. I ended up just going two sizes up, probably not ideal but I couldn't justify £100 on shoes being just a casual rider.
  • I had the same problem and always rode in Sidi's but last time I bought shoes I was reccomended Specialized BG carbons and they are a fair bit more comfy for me - I'm also pretty flat footed so they are really good.

+1 for Spesh BG shoes, they have a noticably wider toebox than other makes.
  • I've got some Scott Team shoes, they fit my wide (ish) feet pretty well. should be able to get them from an evans i think though they may have to order in.

Another vote for Spesh - I have wide feet as well and suffered with other shoes. No probs now though.

Specialized again! I also have a pair of DMT's which are wider than most brands. Most North American brands will have a wider fit.

I have got very wide feet and used my first pair of bike shoes for the first time today. I must say that though they are one size larger than I would normally take, the Shimano RO85 shoes from Decathlon were remarkably comfortable for their first try out.

I have wide feet and also use Specialised, which are known for having a wide fitting. I know you say they "didn't fit" but do bear in mind that cycling shoes are meant to be relatively tight fitting. In my case I have a pair of Sonoma and the MTB BG Expert. Also have Shimano sandals which are great.

I think most shops advise going a size up on Shimano shoes. All in all I think they are small for their size.

Northwave do wide shoes - although their sizing is a bit wierd so you need to try them on!

I am suprised North Wave didn't fit as they are usually seen as wide. Sidi's wide size would be good i think and they are a well respected maker of shoes.

I have just bought a pair of Scott road shoes, they seem fairly roomy around the toes. For comparison I have several pairs of Sidi shoes that are a tight but comfy fit and I find Shimano shoes uncomfortably tight across the toes.

Not many places seem to stock them, I bought mine from Mountain Trax in Berkshire. They don't stock many of the road shoes, but have the mtb range, which are the same size/fit.
  • I have the opposite problem, an extremely narrow foot with a high arch. I've been looking around & have been told to avoid Northwave & Specialised as they are usually a wide fit. One shop told me to try Sidi & DVM or is it DVT (can't remember exactly) as being Italian made they will be a narrow fit. I tried them & they were really comfortable, I then asked how much? I'm still recovering from the shock of the price (over £150!).
  • Hi, I had the same problem! My strange shaped feet needed wide shoes and also bigger sizes. It used to take days to find decent shops online and in the end I made my own directory of wide shoes and big shoes suppliers. Its at www.mybigshoes.co.uk . have a look and let me know if its any use.http://www.mybigshoes.co.uk

Bing - I think its a general thing that Spesh are wider. You need to go to a shop though and try for fit. Shoes arent a good online purchase.
  • If money is no object then, I would recomend these to anybody. http://www.bikeradar.com/gear/category/ ... shoe-10691
As stated above I think it will be a general thing for all models of specialized to have a wider than normal fitting.

Not everybody agrees with your point of view though.

Northwaves seem a touch wider than Sidi or Time shoes.

Shoes are one area where you have to bite the bullet - spend some time and money and go to a decent shop. I brought specialized BG sport as everyone told me what a good shoe they were - It was only when I went to a shop to try on some shoes I realized that not only were these shoes to small - they were the wrong shape for my foot - the instant I tried on Northwave Vertigo's - they almost felt like slippers !

I am very happy with the vertigos and would recommend them - however go to a shop and sit in different types of shoes - I was there a good hour trying on different shoes - a decent shop won't mind this.

People have often commented that Ive got the widest feet theyve ever seen. Infact GB cycles said the same..

I ended up with Northwave. one size up, and theyre perfect.. i mean perfect.
  • I have odd shaped feet that kind of get wider at one point on the outside of my feet. My Specialized BG shoes are really painful.

I've had the same problem with snowboard boots in the past, but at least then you can go into a big shop and try on many differrent brands. I don't know any cycle shops near me that stock a decent range of shoes.
