Pretty Cool: DiLuca's Pre-Race Ritual
I think this is pretty neat to watch. Even with the best mechanics in the world, DiLuca doesn't take any chances and checks everything on his bike.

I think for all subsequent days in this giro his ritual will have to include prayer.0

He might need a bit more help than that...0 -

I'm glad I'm not the only one, and in good company too!
For DDL it is down to professional perfectionism, for me it's down to the insecurity of being my own mechanic and learning from past (often embarassing rather than dangerous) mistakes.
I remember watching 'A Sunday in Hell' and Merckx incessant faffing about with spanners and measuring everything. It is a wonder some of us ever get out of the garage. :?
Made me feel better.0 -
I think his pre-race ritual includes a few other practices0

I feel tyres and maybe get track pump out pressure up then a wee pull of the brakes and spin of the wheels thats about it . Usually once a week i might do a full check but daily nah dont bother.

MGGasping - but somehow still alive !0 -
Without sounding lad a complete sad git, did anyone notice that Di Luca has his front brake on the right (the correct way!!)?0

I check spokes and shifting once a week (and clean/lube the chain once a week). But I check brake rubbing before every ride.
I noticed he also checked for cracks in the frame and seat post. Does anyone else do this?0 -

Apologies on the wrong link, something obviously distracted me :oops:0 -
Think he must have skipped the bike check before stage 20, his brakes must have been rubbing or something due to the time he lost0

If he's right-handed maybe he feels he has better control braking into corners with them wired that way.
(even sadder that i resurrected this thread)0
