I have recently bought a Polar CS 400 and 2 speed sensors. HRM works fine, but whatever I do (and yes, I did follow the set up instructions), I simply cannot get a speed reading with either sensor. What are the chances of getting 2 duff sensors? Anyone on here have any experience of getting one of these things to work (or not)?

Have you 'ticked' the speed setting in the bike set-up menu. You may want to set the autostart as well in the same menu. It took me a few days to find all the features, well most of them anyway but it is worth it. It seems much better than the Hac4 it replaced.

The sensor has to be virtualy touching the magnet.

er, no...talk me through it. Only bike set up menu I can find is wheel size for bikes 1,2, and none - evidently I am missing something here?

It took me half an hour figuring how much space you need between the magnet and the sensor on a CS100... Try 1-2 mm, no more than that...

    Good luck

I found about the width of a one of the zip ties that you zip the bike mount onto seems to work OK.

    Talk through follows.
RH buttons for 'Settings' menu. OK.
Scroll down settings with RH buttons to 'Bike'. OK
Bike 1 is ticked by default. (RH buttons for bike 2 or other if needed.) OK
Bike 1 menu. Scroll with RH buttons 1/ Wheel. Ok to set that. 2/ Autostart. Tick with OK if needed. 3 Arr time. up to you. 4/ Scroll down to 'Speed'. Tick with OK. 5/ Cadence. Tick with OK if you have cadence kit.
Stop to return to unit off.
My CS400 works OK with a 3mm gap.
To get any value from this unit you must study the manual. It is a waste to just use it as a bike computer. I think it will take me a few months to get to grips with just the more basic possibilities of this unit.
