My girlfriend has just got her new road bike and now she needs some pedals and shoes.
She wants to spend around £100 in total.
Can you guys recommend any that will be suitable for a beginner who has never been clipped in before.
On a side note, are all peals able to have the tension adjusted so they can be set 'light' whilst she gets used to them?
Thanks
Oddy

Not seen a pair of SPD stilettos yet, so it looks like she'll have to make do with cycling shoes
I've added a signature to prove it is still possible.
  • If it's of any interest, I have Shimano M250N pedals and Specialized Taho shoes. Total cost £85 retail.

These are mountain bike parts, really; but I wanted shoes I could walk in. The release tension is adjustable, but I've found the factory setting (about half-way) OK for my needs.

Check Chain Reaction Cycles - loads of shoes on sale and mostly in smaller sizes so very girly friendly!

Shimano M520s are a bargain, good, honest SPD pedals. You use an allen key to adjust the force required to clip in and out, it's dead simple. I use them on the road bike as well as the mtb. I bought Shimano MT40 shoes with these from Merlin, together they were the same price as the MT40 shoes alone elsewhere.

Specialized body geometry designs are meant to be very good. I liked a mate's 661 SPD shoes I borrowed, they felt nice even though they were a bit big. If you buy Shimano shoes by post get one euro size larger e.g. their 43 is akin to 42 elsewhere. Proper cycling socks are nicer than cheapo cotton too, though bear in mind you might need thicker ones in winter.
Aspire not to have more, but to be more.
