I'm pretty much descided on a Giant Trance 3 (has to be less than 1k for cycle2work).
I cannot find anyone who stocks it though.. no one near manchester.
I've tried the Giant dealer from their website - ken foster
charnock richard cycles
loads of LBS
Leisure lakes
Evans x 2
Edinburgh
Anyone any suggestions where i might find one to have a sit on ?
Obviously people are willing to get it in if i leave a deposit.. but i only want to try it for size!
Any advice appreciated.. i guess any of the trance range will do!
Cheers
Andy

Ride-On at Rawtenstall are a Giant dealer. They're only 20 minutes from where the M62 meets the M66, and they give good service too.

Might be worth giving them a ring.

Hi Andy,
If its any help i was in a similar situation a few weeks back. Read loads of reviews and finally decided on a large 20" frame from http://www.paulscycles.co.uk/products.p ... _TRANCE_3_
It was a bit of a gamble, im 6'2" and it fits me fine.
As for the bike itself- ive changed from a mongoose teocali to this and found it to be alot easier to pedal, the most i did on the teocali was 40 miles but couldnt stop peddling this the first time out with a personal best of 53, im highly satisfied and it just highlighted how ' over biked i was '
I have changed some stuff off my teocali onto this frame which probably has made it lighter
namely a pair of dual air revelations and xt hollowtech II crank.
Regards

My LBS is a Ginat dealer and says they haven't been able to get any of the new bikes in for a couple of months - and aren't expecting any in for at least another month or two.
Shame, as I like to have a gander at the new bikes when I pop in.0 -
Cubik - Thankyou very much.. rideon have a Trance X which will do for me to go and have a sit on. I'd never heard of them before!
I'm hoping that the frame will provide a good upgrade path and i believe it's the best frame i can get for my enforced 1k budget.
Pete - I'm a bit dubious about the fox float r.. i've got a few big road rides to do.. i think i'll just have to load up the air pressure! How do you find the fox on the road/climbing ?0 -
Hi Andy,
When i was weighing up the pro's and con's of buying this bike the shock was a concern.
To put you in the picture im 105kg and looked around at a bike that would better suit the riding
i do (mixture of fireroads sustrans trails and lanes all strung together with tarmac) the problem was all the 100mm travel bikes i looked at were very light weight and was concerned i would break them - i include the new 08 trance frame in that. The older 07 frame is approx 1lb heavier and it doesnt feel flimsy. The suspension compared to my old teocali is not as plush but the big differance i noticed is there is very little bob or peddle feedback and thats probably the reason it peddles so well. Its perhaps wrong to compare it to my old bike because they are aimed at differant styles of riding. I have the shock pressurised to 200psi and this gives me approx 25% sag, it hasnt lost any air or oil yet (300miles) , on the road you cant really notice the suspension working unless you look and when stood on the pedals up hill its barely noticable. I never actually tried the original forks i just put my revelations straight in.
Good Luck

Sounds good.. i'm an absolute lightweight at 10.5 stone wet through!
I'm sure max pressure for the road rides will be fine then. I've got 2 or 3 charityroad rides to do and then everythign else is light trail and the occasional trail centre. Unfortunately i have to get this years model through work, but the 08 trance 3 works out at just under £550 through the cycle2work scheme. I'm off to rideon to try a trance x for size on thursday, then hopefully i can get my TRance 3 ordered asap. To be honest i would probably rather go the hardtail route and get some nicer forks up front but i have real problems with my back (i sound like an OAP but i'm only 27!) and i'm hoping the rear suss will help me out a bit with that. Then maybe in a few months i'll stick some better forks up front and maybe an RP23 Fox on the rear.
As i've said i'm limited to 1k with the scheme but i thinki'm confident that this is the best buy with a view to upgradingy. The local pub has turned into a bit of an MTB fest so there's plenty of people i can offload my second hand gear onto!
Thanks for the advice
