Workstands?

I have now found out that the simple £15 stand that lifts the rear wheel off the ground will not work on my Izoard, so I need to buy a proper workstand. Any recommendations on a fold-up stand without spending a fortune. I've been looking at Park Tools, Ultimate and Minoura and they are all well over £100.00.

Although I have a Minoura W300, I'd opt for one of the tripod stands which clamp either the front or rear forks and support the BB - the Tacx Spider of the Elite one both look up to the task - this is the type of stand preferred by pro mechanics.Make mine an Italian, with Campagnolo on the side..0

That's the workstand I have, although it was only £40 when I bought it - I haven't used it for anything where you really need to torque something up like a BB/UT/Crankset though - I tend to use my turbo trainer for that (it wouldn't get used otherwise  )0 -
I got one of these:

i looked at it side by side with the park tools one and could detect any marked difference between them, so plumped for the cheaper one!Whenever I see an adult on a bicycle, I believe in the future of the human race.

Slightly off the subject do I really have to buy an alloy seat post to use a workstand on my cardon framed bike with a carbon seatpost?Norfolk, who nicked all the hills?

no you shouldn't have to. Just don't tighten it up too tight, just enough to grip and hold is fine.
They certainly didn't change the seatpost at Edinburgh Cycle Co-op when I was in there for a course.0 -

Carbon seatposts are tough things. I'm sure they'd be fine clamped. Personally I don't take the risk, and have a Park PRS-20 fork/BB fixing workstand for my carbon bike and, more importantly, for my friend's bikes that pass through my workshop from time to time.
I also keep a junk 27.2 seatpost to use whenever it's called for - I don't like clamping pristine paintwork or mirror polished seatposts when there's heavy work to be done.0 -
I would have to recommend the Tacx cyclespider team

It is a top piece of kit, especially for heavy duty work. It keeps the bike rock solid stable which is a problem with some stands.https://www.bikeauthority.cc/
