Hello All,

Upgrading to discs from my trusty V's wih Sun ringles 0 XC. I'm a 65Kg, pretty light I know.

So I want some XT discs brakes, but wheels should i get!

Mavic Crossrides
Fulcrum Red Metal 5 (any bought them?, made by Campagnolo)
or DT Swiss 4.2 rims on XT hubs.

Cheers,
Foo

None of the above? Get Merlin to build you some 717s on XT.

    Hey,

The DT swiss 4.2/XT come from Merlin cycles for about the same price as the Mavic XC717.

    Are the XC717 much better?

The XC 717's are nice and light but I don't like Mavic hubs. The pawls on the entry level Mavic wheels are poor quality imo. If you can afford it get some hand built wheels - much stronger than factory/machine built ones. I have two Mavic XM819 rims with DT Swiss 340 centrelock hubs and bladed DT Swiss spokes. Never had to re-true the wheels in just under a year now.

Maybe go for XC717 rims and choose your hubs...

If you go for Mavic be positive to get a UK set and not a import or the service centaur will not warranty them. We have had a lot of customers get stung by the many grey imports that are out there. Personally I would not get them though as parts can be very expensive.

I would recommend getting a nice set of Hopes due to there incredible warranty backup and just general parts support. You can get the full wheels off them now or just the hub and get it on whatever rim you like.
