Chapeau, Mr Sella!

I'm relatively new to cycling and have only watched the Tour de France before on TV. I now have Eurosport (curling anyone? Women's tennis?) and have been following the Giro.
Would anyone else like to join me in congratulating the little Italian on two successive storming rides? Did you see the look on his little face when he rolled over the line, especially on the first of the two stages? Hats off!

Emmanuele Sella. Any truth to the rumour he is walking around with a 24-hour erection0

So what if he put the cat amongst the big boys pigeons. Look at the alternative. At least he's made some people very unhappy and others sit up and take notice.
Isn't that his primary objective?
Of course he was most likely doped.
I doubt you'd be first in line to say the rest weren't. I sure wouldn't."Science is a tool for cheaters". An anonymous French PE teacher.0 -

innocent till proven guilty!
Its a bit like what Blazing Saddles Sig says"The only thing more competitive than the racing, is the quality of the doping."
In all honesty he does have a bit of a Sted head look about him but it was very entertaining to see him beast himself up those mountains.0 -
You lot are very cynical!
There hasn't been a sniff of anything untoward in his urine, has there? So what if he's named after a dodgy French porn film, and is only 5 foot 3. You could pump me full of EPO, amphetamines and cocaine and it would still take me a week to get up that hill...Head Hands Heart Lungs Legs0 -
Hi Steve.
Can you do me a favour please and not name the stage winners in the thread titles?
Sometimes it takes a couple of days to catch up with my video recorder.
Cheers, Andy0 -

So how long do we have to wait until we can start a thread and talk about stage winners in a pro cycling forum then ? i dont get this if i have recorded a stage or one day classic i just dont visit this site until i have watched it So if you dont want to know who wins dont visit its not rocket science.

It's convention to put SPOILER in the thread title and the race/stage that the thread is discussing. You should leave out individual names because it gives the games away.0 -
Hi Andy,
Sorry if I spoiled the surprise. Because we here in Asia are 7 hours ahead we must get the results before you do...
But if it takes you a couple of days to catch up with your video recorder you need to pedal faster.
I'll try to remember the *spoiler* thing in future...It is slapped all over the homepage though!Head Hands Heart Lungs Legs0 -

Which is also why I don't go to the homepage, but jump straight to the forum, if I haven't seen that days racing.Carlsberg don't make cycle clothing, but if they did it would probably still not be as good as Assos0 -

Sella has a real chance of the win now, especially on stage 19,can't see them letting him go again.Or maybe they haven't got the power to stop him.All in all though its been a fantastic Giro, infact I think the whole season has been excellent this year.Wonder why :roll:0

Which is why Sella hasn't got a hope of winning the Giro. Winning from a breakaway of non-climbers is very different from riding other GC riders off your wheel. He still 3 minutes on the jersey. No chance.0 -
The way Sella has performed over the lumps has made my wife sit up and take note, she has asked me to get hold of what he has got
and its for the riding - not necessarily the climbing
by the way no chance of winning, that will go to Contador0 -

Ok maybe so but it still doesnt alter the fact if you want to guarantee not knowing who wins dont visit the site If you do visit the site and find out who wins before you have viewed it then as far as i am concerned its your own fault

Yes, the character of the race, will now change for the third week. No team has really wanted to ride shotgun over the breaks. Now, it's imperative Astana do just that and they are the team best equipped to do just that.
Navigare are in a strong position, however, having a number of riders in a threatening position. A podium spot for Sella is a possibility, but unlikely.
It's just a pity the last two mountain stages, don't quite have the right mix to make it really tough, to control. IMO.
Maybe Simoni can give them a few ideas!"Science is a tool for cheaters". An anonymous French PE teacher.0 -
Sella stormed it on his first win and was impressive. The congratulations for the second win definitely go to his teammates, though. Had Baliani not been in the break to do all the work, they would never have been so far ahead and Sella would've never been fresh enough to jump away. With Pozzovivo out back, CSF were in complete control of the stage. Very weird to see a Conti team dictating the racing in a Grand Tour. But hey! If no one else is gonna do it...
It's about time one of the bigger teams took charge, though I'm personally not so sure Astana are up to it. Maybe their guys have been taking it easier these last few days, as has been suggested. SD lost their domestique-de-luxe, LPR must be starting to pay for their first week and Diqui have hardly set the front group on fire up to now, even though they tried. If someone goes on a long flyer, that could seal the deal.
Can't wait.0 -
Near-Pantani class I reckon. And he was the BEST.d.j.

I'd always like to know who wins before I watch the highlights of anything. e.g. I'll only watch MOTD if Everton have won, otherwise I'd just be wasting my time.0 -
Besides, if you know who won, you can laugh at the daft predictions of Harmon.0

I can't believe anyone who didn't want to know who had won todays (in fact, yesterdays) stage would go into a section of the forum to do with "Road Racing", but I guess anythings possible...
I actually came in to ask where Contadors team gets all the pink gear from - the helmet, brake hoods, the sunnies, whatever other sundry bits & bobs they take. Would all the teams be prepared to kit out one of their bikes in a pink ensemble, or is it just cos Contador was fancied to be up there? I seem to remember him riding on to the Champs-Elysses last year on a bright yellow Trek frame??Rides a Cannondale Synapse 105.0 -

My point entirely its a bit like saying you didnt want to know the days news but you tuned it to Sky News on the hour anyway.

Hi there.
I think that getting Contador into the maglia rosa was their plan from the beginning. ;-)
