I think the reason is that Boogerd has apparently been eating all the Rabobank pies since his retirement:

05/06: Judge discloses decision in four weeks' time

The legal proceedings instituted by Michael Rasmussen against the Rabo Cycling Teams Inc. came up at the district court in Utrecht on Thursday. In a two-hour hearing, the judge took notice of both parties' defenses. He is currently contemplating whether it is desirable to call upon further witnesses. The judge has postponed the hearings to July 3, the day on which the final decision will also be disclosed. The Cycling Team was represented by former-Interim Manager Henri van der Aat during the hearing. He was not impressed by the defense put forth by Rasmussen.

"It went exactly as I had predicted. Everyone who has kept track of the media the last few months is familiar with the files that have been brought forward by Rasmussen's lawyer. There were no new issues brought up." Van der Aat is confident about a positive outcome for the cycling team. "We have fully taken into account everything that has been put on the table. There were no surprises. I have all the confidence in a good outcome."

Before the judge in Utrecht, former Rabo-rider Rasmussen is challenging his dismissal from the team during the 2007 edition of the Tour de France. While having the yellow jersey around his shoulders, Rasmussen was dismissed on the spot by Theo de Rooy who was the Director of the Cycling Team at that time. It was the absolute limit for De Rooy when he took notice of the fact that Rasmussen had lied about his true whereabouts in the period preceding the Tour.

It looks like Ewan McGregor on the left and the Advocaat looks like he's trying to remember if he's left the gas on

or whether Rasmussen is rotting away - he looks so corpse like.

I wonder what ASO will do when the decision is taken - just before the Tour? Surely Rabobank can't pretend they really didn't know where he was?

He should go back to presenting the Crystal Maze and touring with the Rocky Horror Show, that is him isn't it??????????????????????
All my life I've wanted to be someone; I guess I should have been more specific.

Wow, that is scary...definitely grounds for proof that the guy has some kind of eating disorder. That cannot be healthy for a grown man no matter how much training he does. He looks way skinnier than last year!!! *shudder*

Stress often induces strange reactions in people, it can range from having a drastic new haircut to a nervous breakdown of some sort.

I would speculate that Rasmussen's weight loss is a reaction to the stress involved in fighting for his career.

That said, if he comes back to the sport and works solely on his cyclin muscles, he'll be unstoppable up those cols!

He's no thinner than when he was racing. I saw him at the start of the Giro di Lombardia in 2006 which he was attending as a spectator and he was that thin then. You're used to seeing him in cycling kit remember.
  • What's David Mellor doing there? Do you think they misheard when they addressed the summons?

I read comments of another rider who often passes and chats to Rasmussen while they are out training and Rasmussen says he is as fit as he was this time last year and would be ready to go but is just waiting on the UCI's decision.
