My company is making all the right noises about starting a CycleToWork scheme.
They won't use the companies set up to do this (eg cycle scheme) as are happy to do the accounting them selves (which I'm sure is fine)
But we're unsure as to what is allowed on the scheme
CycleScheme say that you have to purchace a bike to purchace any kit.
But the legistation doesn't seem to restrict it as such - is it just CycleScheme's restriction?
Also what kit is valid?
All cycle clothing?
(eg shorts)
Any kit with reflective in it?
(eg a nice new windstopper, with reflective cuffs/piping)
Or just a sam brown belts + reflective waistcoats?
thnx
(I couldn't find a better place to put this topic, is there any where better)

You can get any kit that is used for cycling.
This includes and clothing to be used for "commute", inc sam brown belts and goretex.
Basically pretty much anything that you can justifiably use on commuting duties is OK, inc SPD shoes and helmets.
It's a great scheme, my company self administer too, much better!0 -
How do you know this goon news ? - is there a government doc I can read print out?

This looks like a good place to start:
http://www.dft.gov.uk/pgr/sustainable/cycling/cycletoworkschemeimplementat57320 -
that says 'Eligible equipment includes cycles and cyclists' safety equipment'
not at all suggesting any kit as you said before...

safety equipment is open to wide interpretation.
Every instance I know of the scheme allows kit that can be sensibly used during your commute. And yes this does include SPD shoes and goretex jackets. Surely the proper kit to ride your bike adds to the safety and comfort of using it?0 -
A lot of people that work with me have used the scheme to get gear as well. We use Evans cycle shops. They have had mixed results, some peope have got everything, others have been limited to stuff like lights and rellective belts.
Seems to be a good idea to make friends with the dealer frist.0
