Last time I had creaking at the front it needed grease around the bars where the stem clamps onto them.
But I didn't do it myself and went to a shop because at the time, I had no idea what was causing the creaking. They unclamped the bars and put some white gunge around the middle and then it was fine.
Does anyone know what that white gunge might have been called so I can buy some more? The creak has returned and I'd like to do it myself this time.
Also, can the white stuff be used to grease any other parts or is it strictly for bars?0 -
Im not sure what sort of creak your experiencing . Is it a creak every now and again or a constant creaking?. By which i mean does it creak not matter what sort of terrain your riding?
I had it on my road bike , drove me to distraction until i read an article in cycling plus about annoying creaks . They suggested a drop of heavy oil on the spokes where they cross and hey presto silence .0 -
try a smear of grease under the stem top-cap?0

Last time i had a creak i too was convinced it was coming from the front, turned out to be my saddle where the rails go into the saddle, a little squirt of GT85 sorted it out.0

Just get a tube of Finish Line Teflon grease and then you can use it for all joints like this including cranks, BB cups, seatpost etc."Internet Forums - an amazing world where outright falsehoods become cyber-facts with a few witty key taps and a carefully placed emoticon."0 -

I had mysterious creaking from the front of my bike once, turned out when i turned the bars, the cables rubbed a bit in the cable holders on the frame, just put some WD40 on them.0
